"If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of Giants" - Isaac Newton
On the shoulders of the masters:
I have been lucky to learn from the masters. I had great teachers at IIT Madras, starting with my PhD adviser/mentor Prof. Arindama Singh, I learned mathematical and functional analysis under the tutelage of Prof. S. H. Kulkarni, Prof. M. T. Nair, and Prof. P. V. Subrahmanyam. In IIT Madras we also had a weekly seminar series which I attended fervently and still have the notes I painstakingly undertook to write down. I was also lucky to learn from other great teachers from institutes in India who's lectures I have attended in the 2002 to 2009 period via Advanced Foundation Schools (AFS) in mathematics sponsored by NBHM, India.
Tidbits you really do not need to know about Surya:
His Erdös number is 5 - My Erdös number seems to be the 'median' level! Hopefully it will become < 5, (but surely > 2) in the future!! ;-)
He is multilingual - Tamil, English, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi!
He studied until his undergraduate degree (BSc Mathematics) in Tamil Medium - Subjects were taught in Tamil language including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany + Zoology)!
He has not (officially) studied Biology after the 12th Standard/Grade and now he is an Assistant Professor in Bioinformatics!
He learned Neural Networks in 2001 as part of his Discrete Mathematics (!) graduate course - though he never predicted it will herald AI/Deep Learning Era we see now!
He learned Topology in 2002 and even presented a seminar + viva in Masters - though he never predicted it will herald the TDA = Topological Data Analysis area we see now!
He has 15+ years worth of English Premier League, Spanish La Liga knowledge - players, teams, transfers, iconic matches, goals !
He has worked and did research in three different continents - Asia (India), Europe (Portugal), and North America (USA)!

A short note on my name:
My full name is: Surya Prasath Vellai Badradoss
Surya Prasath - my name (in Tamil: சூரிய பிரசாத்)
Vellai - my village name (actually my father's!)
Badradoss - my father name
I prefer to be just called Surya - சூர்யா (pronounced soo-r-ya)! :-)
In India I used V. B. Surya Prasath (or Surya Prasath V. B. depending on where you prefer your initials) and in Europe (Portugal)/USA I used the full name as in my Passport/Visa. Thus, for all purposes my given name is SURYA PRASATH and surname/family name is VELLAI BADRADOSS.
In my publications all sorts of combinations happened: V. B. Surya Prasath, V. B. S. Prasath, V Prasath (in IEEE publications), VB Prasath, Prasath, VBS, and S. Prasath.
